Motorcycle owners 'should protect their machines

The motorcycle security device company Tracker has revealed that bike thieves are targeting low-value bikes as well as expensive models.
Speaking as the company reveals that, in 2008, it tracked £300,000 of stolen vehicles, its managing director - Bill Raynal - states that some models worth £1,000 are being taken by thieves.
As such, he states all bike owners should take steps to protect their machine, including fitting a tracking device.
These methods could also help product their bike insurance premiums.
Mr Raynal suggests that "all motorcycle owners need to take steps to protect their assets, as the current economic climate means many households aren't in the position to replace a stolen bike.
"Having a tracking device installed offers owners that added level of security, increasing their chances of recovering their stolen bike."
Another way for riders to protect their bike insurance premium is to drive safely on the roads.
Last week saw the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) draw attention to an initiative designed to do just that. The Enhanced Rider Scheme hopes to improve a biker's coordination, balance and cornering technique.
The DSA suggests that the programme is useful to riders who are new, want to brush up their skills or who are returning to two-wheel transport after a break.
