Bike insurance policyholders concerned about the current motorcycle testing arrangements are being urged to submit evidence for a inquiry into the situation.

The Transport Committee has announced that since the two-part test was introduced in April this year, concerns have been voiced that too many test centres have been closed and riders are having to travel long distances to reach a facility.

Safety issues have also been raised with regards to the off-road section of the test, in particular the swerve and stop requirement.

The inquiry will seek to examine whether the tests are appropriate and safe, if test centre numbers are adequate, whether the EU Second Driving Licence Directive has been interpreted and applied correctly and what the impact of the changes in motorcyclist testing has been.

Those interested in contributing to the inquiry are invited to submit short and consistent evidence by September 22nd.

Last month, the Motor Cycle Industry Association urged newly appointed secretary of state for transport Lord Adonis to go back to the drawing board and assess the problems with the new test.

It also suggested the issues be resolved before consultation begins on the European Third Directive on Driving Licences, which is due to be implemented by 2013.
