Vehicle recovery system maker Tracker has helped locate a pizza delivery scooter, thwarting attempts by thieves to hide the machine.

The bike criminals took the machine and hid it in woodland near the M1, which could have led to a bike insurance claim for the owner.

However, because the machine was fitted with a Tracker device, it was soon traced by police.

Three police forces were involved in the search for the scooter, which had been used for off-roading and is thought to have been transported in a van for a number of days when crossing between counties.

Stuart Chapman, Tracker's police relationships manager, commented: "Thieves need to be aware that our system is fitted to many motorcycles, not just high value motor cars."

He explained that the devices use high frequency technology to lead police to the location of stolen vehicles, with Tracker being the only stolen vehicle recovery provider operated by the 52 police forces in the UK.

The company recently revealed that it recovered £300,000 worth of motorcycles last year and has also slashed the prices of its Retrieve unit with installation and its Monitor.
