A plucky pensioner has joined a motorbike gang at the ripe old age of 80, proving you are never too old to be an easy rider.

Doris Roberts was given the chance to go on a motorbike ride by her nephew Wes Nicholson for her 80th birthday, reports the Daily Post.

Nicholson, who would need bike insurance to ride on British roads, took his elderly aunt out with him and his dedicated biker friends.

"It was a big surprise and I didn't expect it," said Doris of her nephew's unorthodox gift.

She told the newspaper: "I always admire the bikes when they come into the village, although I don't like to stare too much."

Nicholson explained that he had the idea when talking to his aunty to visit an unwell relative in Hastings.

As the pair were travelling, a group of bikers pulled up behind them riding Harley Davidsons.

"Now, Doris is quite reserved and I just said to her 'fancy having a go on the back of one of those' and she said she used to ride on the back of a motorcycle quite a lot," he explained.

Daring Doris revealed that after World War II she had travelled on an old military bike and used to enjoy the experience immensely, inspiring her nephew's birthday present.

However, the 80-year-old is not alone in her thrill-seeking. In 2003, 67-year-old pensioner Ted Hellewell launched a plan to ride 8,000 miles across Canada in memory of his late wife, reports Motorcyclenews.com.
