Bike insurance customers 'are faking it'

Brits are increasingly exaggerating their injuries after being involved in an accident in an attempt to secure a bigger pay out from their insurer.
That was the finding of a recent survey of GPs who reported that more drivers and customers of bike insurance have tried to pull a fast one in their surgery since the recession began.
Of those questioned, 65 per cent of doctors said they had seen an increase in car and bike insurance customers faking their injuries over the past decade.
Most commonly, motorists try to exaggerate their symptoms of whiplash, which can be hard for a practitioner to disprove a patient has.
According to LV=, such claims now account for 20 per cent of drivers' premiums, making the scam a costly experience for all concerned.
Martin Milliner, an employee of the firm which conducted the research, said: "Anyone trying to get money for an injury that doesn't exist is not only breaking the law but also wasting valuable NHS time and resources."
Earlier this year, the Association of British Insurers urged budgeting Brits not to cut back on their insurance premiums during the recession, stressing the benefits of having a good policy in place.
