Bike security firm Tracker has issued riders with a number of tips to help them stay safe during the summer.
With an abundance of bike runs and motorcycling events to attend, riders may let their machine's security slip to the back of their minds, the firm suggests.
According to the firm's managing director Bill Raynal, statistics show that thieves are as likely to target a £1,000 bike as they are to attack a machine worth £10,000.
"We advise bike owners to make it difficult for thieves by using a range of different security options, including chains, immobilisers and markers," he commented.
The firm recovered £300,000 worth of motorcycles last year and is urging bikers to invest in security devices that can help police locate machines should they be stolen.
"Having a tracking device installed offers owners that added level of security, increasing their chances of recovering their stolen bike," Mr Raynal went on to say.
Tracker also advises bikers to keep their keys safe at all times, take care when parking and ensure the bike is secure when stored at home to reduce the chance of thieves striking and potentially a hefty bike insurance claim, too.
Earlier this year, the company revealed that budget models such as the Peugeot Ludix are favourites among motorbike thieves.
