Bike insurance policyholders with an interest in the history of Triumph models may be excited to read that a book has been published about how the Triumph Bonneville was saved.
With 2009 marking the bike's 50th anniversary, John Rosamond has penned the book entitled Save the Triumph Bonneville! - The inside story of the Meriden Workers' Co-op, which explores the last bastion of British motorcycle production after the industry collapsed and details how the workforce refused to let the Triumph Bonneville die.
When it was announced that Meriden would close down in the 1970s, the workers locked their bosses out of the production facility and staged an 18-month sit-in.
Written by Meriden workers Co-Op's former chairman, the publication also has a foreword by Tony Benn, suggesting that the situation has contemporary significance and can teach readers lessons for the modern era.
"That is why this is such an important book and I strongly recommend anyone interested in the future of Britain to read it carefully," he comments.
London's Ace Café has an annual Triumph Day on which bikers attending the renowned hang-out can celebrate all things Triumph-related. This year's event took place on June 14th.
