The new chairman of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) is intent on making a practical contribution to the road safety of motorcyclists.
Succeeding outgoing chairman David Kenworthy, Alistair Cheyne OBE has taken up his new role with gusto and plans to campaign for safer road conditions for both motorists and bikers.
"There is no greater contribution to road safety than helping drivers and motorbike riders to maintain and develop their road skills," he commented.
Aged 65, the Aberdeenshire motoring expert said that the UK has an "unmatched" pool of driving expertise through its various motoring groups, also offering respected research and policy operations.
"They form a unique combination capable of making an outstanding and practical contribution to road safety. I see it as my job to ensure that they do just that," he added.
Mr Cheyne previously worked for the AA, where he made his way up the ladder from office boy to deputy managing director.
Earlier this summer, the IAM launched an all-new manual for bikers at Mallory Park.
The book is a guide to defensive riding, which could also help riders learn of the best ways of avoiding bike insurance claims through safe riding.
