Justin Timberlake is reported to be the latest celebrity helping to raise the profile of motorbiking around the world after being spotted clad head-to-toe in leather and riding a Harley Davidson.

Data firm Swinton said a host of other US celebs, including Brad Pitt and fellow Ocean's Eleven star George Clooney, are among those taking to two wheels, motorbike insurance customers may be interested to hear.

Clooney's favourite brand of bike is said to also be Harley Davidson while Pitt has a whole range of expensive bikes, many of which are customised, made by boutique manufacturer Confederate, reports the firm.

The study also details how motorbikes have long been a silver screen staple, as a survey of 1,000 customers revealed the nation's favourite biking movie moments.

Topping the list is Steve McQueen's escape from prison on a Triumph TT Special 650cc in the Great Escaped, closely followed by Arnold Schwarzenegger's appearance on a Harley Davidson Fatboy in Terminator 2.

Motorbikes are also ideal for more everyday activities, recent research has confirmed.

Analysis of the National Travel Survey by the Motorcycle Industry Association has shown that more than half of all motorbike journeys last year were made by Britons on their way to or from work.
