Teams continue Sepang testing

The majority of MotoGP teams have returned to Malaysia to continue their preparations for the forthcoming season.

Less than two weeks after testing at Phillip Island, Australia, the teams are looking to get their garages in order before the two final test dates in Spain this March.

Defending champion Valentino Rossi and Camel Yamaha team-mate Colin Edwards put in some good stints on their 2006 YZR-M1 machines on today's first day of testing, with both riders lapping in the top five places.

However, the main aim of the first day was to sort out vibration problems that have afflicted the new machine.

"Yamaha has done a great job and the potential of this bike is very high, it's a big improvement to last year's M1 and I am sure that once we've solved this one remaining issue, things will be very good," Rossi told CycleNews Online.

Meanwhile Team Suzuki riders John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen are testing a variety of suspension and chassis settings on their new Suzuki GSV-Rs and the Konica Minolta rider Makoto Tamada claims there is much work to be done on his Honda RC211V before the new season.

Italian Marco Melandri was unofficial fastest on the first day.
