Bikers dressed in pink underwear have raised thousands of pounds for charity during a recent sponsored bike ride in Scotland.

The Kilmarnock Standard reports that around 90 people donned pink bras and vests and got on their bikes to mark the Breast Way Round event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Bike insurance policyholders may have been among the riders who raised more than £37,000 for the charity by taking part in the ride.

The road trip covered more than 450 miles, starting at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock and stopping in Oban, Fort William and Inverness before concluding at Glasgow's George Square.

Event organiser Shirley-Ann Barnes set up the ride in memory of a friend who lost her life to breast cancer.

The 46-year-old Kilmarnock resident commented: "It is an amazing amount of money to have raised. A huge thank-you to all who made this possible."

She alone has raised more than £40,000 for the charity this year so far, the paper reported recently.

Following the success of the event, the bikers plan to hold a Halloween fancy dress party at the Hunting Lodge in Kilmarnock on Saturday October 31st.
