The former boss of motorbike manufacturer Honda UK has criticised North Wales Police for being too keen to secure convictions against motorcyclists, it has been reported.

According to industry publication Motorcycle News (MCN), Bob McMillan, who is also an ex-police motorcycle instructor, said evidence was altered in an attempt to convict him of another rider's offence.

The magazine claims the Crown Prosecution has since dropped the case, citing a number of errors, including false statements over the time and place of the alleged speeding incident.

Mr McMillan told MCN he believed police had pursued the case to try and justify the use of a helicopter.

He urged law-abiding bike insurance policyholders and other riders to travel to the region this Sunday (September 13th) to protest at what he perceives to an unfair policy of stopping motorcyclists driving within the speed limit.

He warned: "It is very important that I should point out to MCN readers that facts will be manipulated and that riders should take care, stick to the speed limits and ride a good distance apart to avoid being described as a convoy with subsequent fabricated speeds and distances."

The magazine is currently running a Reclaim Wales campaign, which aims to publicise what it describes as "anti motorcycle" behaviour.
