Honda has announced it has developed the world's first dual clutch fully automatic motorcycle transmission system for large displacement machines.
Thrill-seeking bike insurance customers may be pleased to hear the new system provides riders with a sportier riding experience, complete with easy operation and improved transmission efficiency.
Featuring a light, compact design, it can easily be combined with existing engines without significant modification and is likely to be available from early 2010.
In addition, Honda claims it delivers precise acceleration control comparable to that of professional racing, thanks to electronic control technology for smooth, seamless gear changes.
The transmission is equipped with four operating modes for flexibility, including two fully automatic choices, the S-mode for sporty riding and a six-speed manual option.
The two clutches in the system operate alternately to effect gear changes. When switching from first to second gear, for example, the computer detects this and engages second gear before releasing the first-gear clutch.
Earlier this week saw further announcements from Honda as it released new details about its forthcoming 2010 line-up of new products, including a range of technical and colour-scheme updates to new models.
