New motorbike safety campaign launched in schools
A new safety campaign aimed at educating students is to be launched by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCI) next month.
Called Links - Connecting Citizenship and Road User Education, around 4,500 schools are expected to be sent a pack explaining the importance of motorcycle road safety.
Karen Cooke, Head of Motorcycle Safety at the MCI said: "The industry has a responsibility to help create safer roads for all road users." The pack includes CDs and DVDs to help teachers and youth workers educate students on road safety following research that showed only half of teachers educated pupils on the subject.
Links will be launched at the Education show that runs from the 9 - 11th March at the NEC.

The Department for Transport (DfT) is already running its Think! campaign to educate all ages to be safe on the roads.
According to DfT statistics, motorcyclists are 40 times more likely to be killed than car drivers, representing 20 per cent of deaths in 2003 despite only comprising one per cent of traffic.
Targeted at schools, the MCI campaign includes its DVD on motorcycle safety called Act your age.
The MCI hopes that its campaign will now be taught as part of the citizenship classes now required in schools.
