The man dubbed the Wizard of Willenhall for his fearless racing style has died aged 94, it has been reported.
According to the Express and Star, Don Evans of New Invention, became legendary in biking circles after winning a host of awards in a career spanning two decades.
He started racing in the early 1930s, taking part in amateur scrambles on grass tracks around the region on a 350 New Imperial bike.
One of his career highlights came on Easter Monday 1946 when he took part in a three-quarter mile race in Derby, which attracted up to 40,000 people, claims the local newspaper.
While he continued his day job as a greengrocer, Mr Evans continued taking part in amateur and professional races to earn money on the side.
A further achievement was making a UK-class Moto-Cross Des Nations squad of talent, as part of a team that beat countries from across the world at a 1950 event in Sweden.
His son Michael Evans, aged 65, told the Express and Star: "He was a very competitive man and wanted to cram as much as he could into his life. He succeeded in business, in sport and as a father."
On other motorcycling news, Suzuki rider Carl Nunn has taken the Red Bull Pro National MX1 Championship title.
