A London doctor is hoping to help raise £50,000 for a cancer centre through a 2,000 mile motorcycle ride, it has been reported.
According to the Sutton Guardian, Dr Colin Rickard, a director at the Royal Marsden Centre has teamed up with five other bikers for the charity race across France.
The group will be accompanied by a back-up team for the week-long trip, following the route of the first Tour de France cycling race in 1903.
Dr Rickard, who could prepare for his trip by investing in bike insurance, told the newspaper: "It is good to challenge yourself, as it keeps you motivated and it is important to have different experiences.
"I am going to be with a great team of experienced riders whose intentions are to raise as much money as possible."
He added that he chose the hospital's Cancer Campaign charity as he had worked at the Marsden for 15 years and so knew what good work was done there.
Meanwhile, the biking community in the West Midlands is mourning the loss of former champion rider Don Evans who died recently at the age of 94.
