Bike insurance policyholders may be pleased to read that fellow motorcycle rider and US TV host Jay Leno is auctioning off his custom Yamaha for a good cause.

The stand-up comedian, who fronts the Jay Leno Show, plans to auction his customised Star VMax motorcycle on October 10th to benefit Bailey's Cafe community centre in Brooklyn as part of an arts programme.

"Bailey's Cafe is a wonderful arts programme," he commented.

"Since I didn't have any Yamaha musical instruments to auction off, I thought I'd sell my Star VMax, which is made by Yamaha, to support the programme."

A lucky bike insurance policyholders could find themselves the new owner of the motorcycle if the price is right.

The bike generates 200bhp and is expected to fetch up to $100,000 (£62,545).

Leno commented that he thought the auction was "a fun thing to do" and added that he has "a lot of motorcycles".

Yamaha recently announced that Britons can start placing orders for the 2010 VMax model now, with the first units set to be delivered in November this year. The bike has a governed top speed of 220 kilometres per hour.
