Benevolent motorcycle insurance policyholders in Canary Wharf are being invited to donate funds for a racing challenge to be held on the Isle of Dogs next year.
Little-known privately owned team in British Superbikes Mist Suzuki recently found that a lack of cash cut their last season's length, Wharf.co.uk reports.
Owner Mike Edwards, aged 41, commented that the team has some sponsors who provide gear for the racers, but few provide funding for actual events.
Speaking about the last season, Mr Edwards said that the team "had high hopes for the season with Matt Bond, one of the most promising young riders out there".
But the racer collided with a riderless bike at Brands Hatch and put paid to the team's hopes.
"It was a fluke crash but we had to rebuild a £15,000 bike," Mr Edwards stated.
"Working on a tight budget meant we had problems getting replacement parts and that hindered us for the next few rounds."
The team suffered accident damage from three separate incidents during the season.
Bike insurance policyholders with some cash spare might want to get involved to help the struggling team, with Mr Edwards saying that sponsors get to experience perks such as access to the paddock and being able to meet the riders.
"And you never know, you might be helping to unearth the next Valentino Rossi," he concluded.
