A Nottingham biker has raised £1,686 for a cancer charity appeal by taking to two wheels, it has been reported.
Speaking to This is Nottingham, Andy Parkin said he decided to support the Maggie's campaign as he had first-hand experience of cancer, after his wife was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease.
"Life went on, but we supported each other in our own way, riding the storm as we went along," he explained.
Mr Parkin, a 54-year-old driving instructor and motorcycle trainer, rode 550 miles a day on his Suzuki 1200cc motorbike from Nottingham to Land's End, up to John O'Groats and back to Nottingham, covering 1,900 miles in all.
"People on the crescent where I live sponsored me, as did colleagues. One day I was at the test centre when a guy I'd never met gave me £20 because he'd read about it in a driving magazine," he said.
Maggie's centre is still accepting donations until the end of the appeal on October 21st.
