Yamaha setting the pace in Qatar
Riders from team Yamaha held three of the top four spots on Thursday in Qatar.
Despite rainy conditions for the qualifying sessions in the Middle East, the 2006 World Superbike championship is now underway.
Turkish rider Kenan Sofuglu performed strongly on the CBR 600RR with the Winston Ten Kate Honda team, taking first place in the first qualifying session with a time of two min 21.890secs.
He was closely followed by World Supersport star Kevin Curtain for Yamaha, who was in pole position until the final moments of the World Supersport timed session and recorded a final time of two min 23.872 secs on the YZF R6.

Curtain's Yamaha Motor Germany team-mate Broc Parkes also took provisional pole at one point during the 45 minute opening round, but eventually came in fourth at two min 24.757 secs.
R6 rider Gianluca Nannelli for the new Kopron ITA Edo Racing Yamaha squad came third with a time of two min 24.021 secs.
The Yamaha team appeared confident ahead of practice and qualifying for the first round of the championships at Losail in Qatar.
The 5.4km track is located in the desert outside the city of Doha and final qualifying for the big race on Saturday takes place on Friday, with riders hoping for clearer weather.
