Bike insurance policyholders may have opted for naked-style motorcycles in their droves last month, as figures have shown sales of the models surged in September.
Statistics from the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) highlight that sales of the bikes rose by 3.4 per cent last month compared with September 2008, increasing the market share to 25.4 per cent.
The most popular model was found to be Honda's new CBF 125 M, closely followed by the Yamaha YBR 125.
Overall, and reflecting the current economic situation, sales of bikes were down by more than 21 per cent for September this year.
However, the figure highlighted lower decline in sales than seen in August.
Sheila Rainger, MCI's director of communications, said: "The market has done well against the extremely testing conditions of economic uncertainty, poor weather and high-profile problems with the new motorcycle test."
She added that the commuter and learner sectors have seen strong performances recently and highlight how Britons are interested in flexible and low-cost means of transport.
In August, the touring, sport tour and naked styles recorded the strongest sales performance.
