Dedicated motorcyclists have no excuse to pack their machine away at the end of summer, says a biking expert.
According to trade body the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA), increasing numbers of bike insurance customers are choosing to take to two wheels all year round.
The association's analysis of government data reveals 156,000 more bikes were kept taxed and ready for use throughout winter 2008 than were five years ago.
It maintains that a third fewer bikes are now taken off the road than they were back in 2001.
Responding to the findings and following the end of British Summer Time, the MCIA tells bikers not to "wimp out in winter", but suggests following simple safety advice.
Pointing to government data indicating eight per cent of accidents involving motorcycles were caused by slippery road conditions, it suggests bikers reduce their speed in foggy, wet or icy conditions.
Turning lights on before it is fully dark, checking mirrors regularly and giving other motorists plenty of space will all help to improve rider safety.
Wearing a reflective jacket to improve visibility and plenty of layers to keep warm will also protect against the elements.
One motorcycle fan demonstrating his commitment to two wheels is Hollywood actor Brad Pitt, who recently added a new Ducati to his collection.
