Suzuki success in Atlanta showdown

Suzuki superstar Ricky Carmichael shot to victory at Atlanta's Georgia Dome on Saturday, taking the 20-lap Supercross Main Event 2.9 seconds ahead of Yamaha's Chad Reed.

The team Makita bike rider was clearly jubilant to have secured his fourth win at the Georgia Dome, having come from seventh place at the outset of round eight of the AMA Supercross series.

Florida's Carmichael finished in last place on his previous outing, but this time around his luck was given a boost when James Stewart and his Kawasaki crashed out on the first turn.

This left Chad Reed out in front, but the Suzuki had succeeded in gaining ground by lap eight, finally overtaking on lap 11 to take the win.

Suzuki teammate Ivan Tedesco came in fourth on his RM-Z450, behind a remounted and determined Stewart.

Speaking after the encounter, Carmichael reminisced: "(Chad) hounded me for while out there and I was just sticking to my lines.

"As the track wore out it just got harder and I knew that it would be harder for Chad to get by me. We got our back against the wall and I'm going to try to win every race from here on out."

However, the win was somewhat tainted by the disappointing penalty of 25 points awarded over an alleged fuel infringement.

The Makita Suzuki team now plan to appeal the decision to the organising body, the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA).
