Motorcyclists have been urged to be more cautious during the current bad weather and pay particular attention to the threat of crosswinds.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (AIM) has issued advice to all motorists about the way they drive during bad weather, with those on motorbikes told to pay particular attention to the threat of crosswinds, which can play havoc with their ability to steer properly.
Updating motorbike insurance may also be advisable during the bad weather to ensure that a rider is fully covered in the event of an accident, which is much more likely during bad weather than at other times of the year.
"Be ready for side winds at gaps in buildings or as you come out of a cutting," the IAM advice states.
It also has advice on dealing with large amounts of surface water, which has become a significant problem around the country in recent weeks, as some parts of Britain have been flooded by heavy rain.
Cumbria has been worst affected by the bad weather, with Cockermouth at one point being cut off by severe flooding which has devastated many homes and businesses in the region.
