Bike insurance policyholders in receipt of a Yamaha YZF-R1 may be proud to read that their machine has been selected to receive the Motor Cycle News (MCN) Bike of the Year award.
According to the publication, the bike maker took a "massive gamble" when it launched the machine, but the model's innovativeness has helped it to achieve championship wins across the world and become a success in its own right.
Judges presiding over the awards ceremony commented the accolade was "a no-brainer", adding: "You simply couldn't give the award to any other bike."
The model also went on to win the Best Sportsbike over 601cc category, while Yamaha's Vity scooped the Best Scooter accolade.
Yamaha's managing director Andrew Smith said the firm is "delighted" with its awards.
"They top a fantastic year for Yamaha with us achieving number one in the market, one British and no less than five World Championships in 2009," he went on to say.
He added that the awards act as a benchmark for the industry.
Yamaha unveiled its Lord of Yamaha Adventures model at the Tokyo Motor Show this year, with the bike said to mix functional beauty with new, reliable technology.
