Bike insurance policyholders attending this year's Bike Show at Birmingham's NEC Arena may have heard firsthand the chief executive of the Motorcycle Industry (MCI) commenting that the sector is showing resilience in the face of economic gloom.

Speaking at the opening of the event, the MCI's Steve Kenward stated that the UK's motorcycle industry is "a credible, worthwhile, responsible industry, contributing to the economy and taking care of its customers."

Staging the event is an achievement in itself, Mr Kenward commented, as the show is one of just two such events to be held in Europe this year.

He went on to say that the MCI is conducting a study into the industry's contribution to the UK economy, results of which will be published in the new year and are expected to form part of the sector's argument that bikes should be taken seriously as part of transportation.

"The motorcycle industry is going forward. Our house is in order," Mr Kenward concluded.

Birmingham's Bike Show launched on November 27th and runs until December 6th, with bike insurance policyholders still able to get tickets for the remaining days and see Double World Superbike Champion James Toseland and 2009 Supersport World Champion Cal Crutchlow up close.
