Derbyshire has received green flag status under an assessment scheme that identifies areas where fatal motorcycle accidents have either reduced or risen.
In locations where deaths have dropped, green flags may be awarded by government initiative Oneplace for their achievements. Red flags are given to places of particular concern in terms of biker fatalities.
The scheme provides independent information on local issues around the country.
Figures have shown that around a third fewer fatal biker accidents took place in Derbyshire during 2008 than in 2007.
The county, said to be popular with bikers for its stunning scenery, has seen motorcyclist deaths reduce by around 40 per cent during the time frame, excluding Derby city.
It cites organisations targeting the most risky routes as having contributed to the decline, as well as enhanced education for motorcyclists about staying safe on the roads - potentially also helping them avoid bike insurance claims.
Among the steps taken to enhance rider safety is the erection of signs along the 14 most dangerous routes, with eight roads having been targeted in 2008 helping generate a 70 per cent reduction in accidents during the April to September biking season.
