The son of Evel Knievel will have more than motorbike insurance on his mind in the coming months as he prepares to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious daredevil father.

Robbie Knievel has announced plans to attempt the same stunt that forced his father into retirement in 1975 when the stunt went wrong and the star broke his pelvis.

The stuntman will attempt to jump his motorbike over 16 London buses in the British capital next month, despite his father suffering a broken pelvis after trying to fly over 13 buses at Wembley Stadium.

Commenting on his decision, Robbie said: "I'm never jumped a Harley-Davidson before and I’m ten years older than my dad was when he retired."

He added that he has always dreamed of emulating his father by attempting the jump that ended the legendary daredevil's career.

Meanwhile, someone who may need to consider upgrading their motorbike insurance is television presenter Richard Hammond.

The Top Gear star has been given a new motorbike for his 40th birthday by wife Mindy, the Sun reports, meaning he now has a collection of six bikes, together with 18 cars.
