In news that could interest motorbike insurance policyholders, iconic brand Harley-Davidson has announced it is recalling almost 112,000 units from customers around the world.
The recall is being carried out as the result of tests carried out by the manufacturer itself, which found that a bad crash could result in a leak from the fuel tank, with potentially disastrous consequences, reports MotorcycleNews.com.
Harley-Davidson has flagged up the safety concern in 21 different models in the trike, touring and custom ranges and all the models concerned are from the 2009 and 2010 ranges.
Customers in the UK will be contacted shortly and will have stronger braces fitted to their motorcycles free of charge to ensure the danger is removed.
There have been no reports of any accidents related to the new discovery, but clearly fast action from Harley-Davidson will minimise the risk of any serious accidents being made even worse as a result of the design issue.
Meanwhile, Zircotec has announced plans to cater for the needs of everyday motorcyclists by offering a ceramic coating that can be sprayed onto exhaust pipes to remove heat from the outer surface.
The product could prove useful for motorcyclists who frequently use soft-sided panniers strapped to their bikes for use as storage containers.
