Motorcyclists in Gloucester may be concerned that more than their bike insurance premiums are being put at risk by a massive pothole in a Barton road.

ThisisGloucestershire.co.uk reports that road users and pedestrians have reported the matter amid concerns about safety.

Linda Cheeseman, aged 53, reported the issue to water company Severn Trent after the hole got bigger following a suspected water leak.

"It is a hazard. We're bikers, and if someone hits that on a bicycle or on a motorbike they are going to come off," she commented.

Liberal Democrat councillor for Barton Usman Bhaimia told the website he fears for the safety of local people, especially the elderly and those with children.

"It's really big, the size of a small crater," he said.

Gloucestershire Highways' Nick Peters commented that officials have been out to inspect the pothole and the cause would seem to be a water leak that has lifted the road.

He added that the matter has been passed to Severn Trent as a priority.

Anti-pothole organisation Fill That Hole urges consumers to remember that if holes in the road are not reported, they cannot be mended.
