Govt launches anti-speeding initiative

A government campaign is set to remind motorcyclists that they put more at risk than their bike insurance premiums by speeding.
Previously launched in February 2009, the government initiative Kill your speed, or live with it, has been re-released in a bid to persuade motorists to think about the consequences of travelling too fast.
The £1.4 million campaign of television, radio and cinema adverts sees a driver haunted by the ghost of a child he killed when speeding and features children's voices on the radio commercials.
Launching the initiative, road safety minister Paul Clark said: "This campaign highlights the consequences of speeding for the driver involved: what is life like for the driver who kills because they are in a rush to get home and how does that split second decision affect the rest of their life?"
He added that speeding motorists had been instrumental in the deaths of 600 people during 2008.
"I hope this campaign will get drivers to kill their speed before it's too late," Mr Clark concluded.
Government figures have shown that speed cameras are helping to reduce the number of fatalities caused by speeding by more than 100 in some areas.
