Suzuki ends 2009 on a high

Motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki has announced its delight at having concluded 2009 in a successful way, despite the economic downturn.
The firm finished the year as the best-selling large capacity bike seller, taking the title for the seventh consecutive year.
Bike insurance policyholders may have clamoured to invest in the new GSX-R1000 last year, with the machine named the firm's best seller, followed by the Bandit 1250SA in second place and the GSX-R750 the third most popular model.
Suzuki GB general manager for sales Paul de Lusignan said the results were encouraging considering the difficulties experienced by much of the world during the financial slump.
"Obviously we saw a drop in sales, but with a strong product range and the continuation of value-busting offers, we've managed to maintain our market position for the seventh year in succession, with a total of 9,767 motorcycles sold in the 126cc and above sector," he added.
Suzuki is now hoping for another bumper year in 2010 as its GSX-R range celebrates its 25th birthday and the firm's racing division celebrates its 50th anniversary.
To mark the GSX-R line-up's birthday, Suzuki has announced it will launch a limited edition version of the GSX-R750 model, which will be restricted to a run of 25 units and only available to buy online.
