A helmet with special cooling properties that could protect lives as well as bike insurance premiums is set to be launched this year.
The ThermaHelm creation, invented by keen biker Jullian Preston-Powers, is fitted with an inbuilt device that cools the brain following a sudden impact.
It is hoped that the cooling mechanism could help save lives and reduce the risk of riders sustaining long-term brain damage in the event of a crash.
"We've had a great reaction. People think it's a great idea and have said they can't believe no-one has thought of this before," commented the inventor.
Following two years in development at Brighton's Sussex Innovation Centre, the headgear is set to go on sale in May, retailing at £299 for the basic helmet.
It works by combining water with ammonium nitrate upon sudden impact to create the cooling sensation that lasts up to 45 minutes.
"This is a hugely exciting innovation that has the potential to save thousands of lives around the world every year," Mr Preston-Powers added.
In November last year the government published safety ratings for an additional 25 motorcycle helmets as part of its Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme, adding to its previous total of 150.
