Motorcyclists are being reminded of the need for thorough security measures to protect their machines following a theft in Great Yarmouth.
Highlighting just how important bike insurance can be, the Great Yarmouth Mercury reports that two motorcycles were recently taken from an unsecured garage.
The incident took place in Belton between noon on January 9th and 10:00 GMT on January 11th, the publication claims.
Two machines were stolen during the break-in - a Yamaha motorcycle with brown side panels and chrome mudguards and a 1968 Raleigh with a blue tank and blue mudguards.
Police are calling upon householders to ensure their buildings are secure to help keep thieves at bay and possibly also reduce the chance of having to make bike insurance claims.
According to figures from the Home Office, the number of motorcycles stolen rose from 48,412 in 2001 to 50,591 in 2003, in-keeping with the increasing number of bikes being registered on the road during the period.
The figures also show that smaller capacity bikes and those less than five years old are the most likely to be taken by thieves.
