Rossi responds to Alonso

Motorbike master Valentino Rossi has thrown down the gauntlet to F1 champion Fernando Alonso, challenging him to a race.

Actually, he challenged him to three races, giving each the chance to use their preferred mode of transport, before calculating who was fastest overall.

The Italian Yamaha rider was responding to Alonso's dismissing of his recent speed in pre-season Ferrari testing in Spain's Valencia. Alonso said that he could make the grade in MotoGP if he got enough practice in.

He said he was impressed with Rossi's performance, but added the biker wouldn't generally make it higher than fifth in F1.

Rossi has therefore suggested that they compete against each other on a bike, in an F1 car and in a rally car and see who is the speediest.

Rossi told Motorcycle News: "I read that if Alonso is able to make some practice then he can put a MotoGP bike on the podium with me.

"Well, I think we should drive a Formula 1 car, a World Rally car and a MotoGP bike, add the times together and then we will see who is the fastest."

The MotoGP champion has tested for Ferrari on a number of occasions, winning the praise of none other than Michael Schumacher.

MotoGP fans can find cheaper motor bike insurance if they take on an approved training course and, unlike Alonso and Rossi, keep their competitive streak in check.
