Honda star fractures vertebrae

Winston Ten Kate Honda rider Karl Muggeridge has fractured some vertebrae in his back after an accident during the final day of the World Superbike Championship Valencia test.

Team manager, Ronald Ten Kate, said the accident was "strange" as Muggeridge "was not pushing that hard" and the incident occurred during the in-lap.

It now seems unlikely that Muggeridge will get back on his Honda CBR1000 for around a month, which means it is all but certain he will miss the next round of the championship on April 23rd.

"Not the best day of my life, but I guess this sort of thing can happen in our job," the rider said.

"I knew I was hurt straight away, the pain was quite strong. Now all I can do is to relax so that I can be back in top form as soon as possible."

Clinica Mobile's Doctor Corbascio said that the Honda rider would need to be immobilised using a cast while the important bones heal, after which time medics would assess whether he could participate in the Monza test in May.

All bikers should make sure they have good cheap motor bike insurance to protect them financially in cases of accident or injury. Motor bikes are involved in a high proportion of road deaths considering their size and frequency, and an official training course certificate can attract cheaper motor bike insurance as well as offering peace of mind.
