A new race format proved challenging for MVR-D Suzuki riders Carl Nunn and Matiss Karro at the Little Silver Track in Devon for the first leg of the 2010 Maxxis British Motocross Championship.

The pair had a difficult start to the weekend, with Carl Nunn potentially setting bike insurance fans' sights high with impressive qualifying performances only to finish in 14th place in two of the three races.

Nunn took the fifth spot in the third heat.

The racer commented that things had started off well during qualifying and then went downhill.

He added: "The final race went a little more to plan, but still wasn't quite as I'd hoped. We have learned important lessons this weekend and will be stronger for round two."

Meanwhile, Matiss Karro struggled during qualifying and missed out on the Superpole session, achieving eight place in MX2 and sixth place in the second heat. Two crashed during the third race meant the rider took 14th.

"Race three was a write-off," he commented.

"It's not possible to crash twice and return a good result, but we know what we need to do and will come back stronger at the next round."

Just before their participation in the leg, both riders attended the Suzuki Off-Road Centre at Wheeldon Farm, near Totnes in Devon, for a special open day in which bike insurance policyholders were given the chance to meet their heroes.
