A new motorcycle racing format as used in Devon for the recent 2010 Maxxis British Motocross Championship leg is teaching riders new lessons, a bike team expert has suggested.

Commenting after MVR-D Suzuki racers Carl Nunn and Matiss Karro struggled to get to grips with a new short three-race format, the team's manager Mark Chamberlain said: "We learned a big lesson with the new format of racing."

According to the manager, "crucially, with the short race format, our starts need to be good", he said of his team.

Mr Chamberlain said that while he was happy with the pace of both riders, both need to make more of a push during their opening laps to avoid disappointment as was experienced last weekend.

"There's really very little opportunity to come back through the pack now, so we need to ensure we're gating better," he added.

Both riders failed to set bike insurance policyholders' hearts alight with their performance in Devon, failing to take any podium finishes.

Meanwhile, Putoline Suzuki riders Tom Sagar and Paul Edmondson each recently took the top step of their respective podiums at the opening round of the Metzeler British Enduro Championship, held at Thetford Forest.
