The prime minister has voiced his support for the motorcycle industry during Prime Minister's Questions.
Bike insurance policyholders may be pleased to read that Gordon Brown said it is vital that we "have a strong motorcycling industry in this country" in response to questions from Conservative MP for St Albans, Anne Main.
She told the prime minister that there has been a 62 per cent reduction in the number of motorcycle tests taken since the introduction of the multi-purpose test centres.
During the introduction of the new facilities, bike test centres reduced in number from more than 200 to around 60.
In response to the figures, Mr Brown said he would look at the numbers in detail.
The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) commented that it is pleased to hear some recognition for the industry.
"We work tirelessly with government to create an environment in which motorcycling can flourish and welcome the prime minister's support," said the MCIA's chief executive officer Steve Kenward.
Last month, the MCIA called for greater support from government officials for the sector, as figures showed bike registrations fell by 42 per cent in January compared with the figure for the same month in 2009.
