Swansea backtracks on off-road motorbike course

A proposal to build a motorbike track in Swansea, Wales, could be put on hold because of opposition from local residents.

Swansea Council said it had received over 1,000 letters opposing the scheme, leading cabinet member Joan Peters to recommend withdrawing planning permission for the Garth Farm project.

Almost 1,500 people also signed a petition complaining the suggested site was too close to residential property in the area.

The track was intended to provide an alternative to off-road motorbikes being used in parks or on common land in the area, a practice which is illegal.

However, Ms Peters told the BBC that the track could still be built in a different location.

"Everyone we have spoken to, including people who live near Garth Farm, believe that the problem of illegal off-road motorcycling needs to be addressed," she said.

"I will be recommending to cabinet that we withdraw the planning application and use the lessons gained from the consultation process to develop our next steps."

Cheap motor bike insurance may be found by shopping around and investing in extra security. Don't leave your motorbike outside and unattended and lock it in a garage at night. Although you may not receive a no claims discount, some insurance companies offer cheaper motor bike insurance for evidence of an approved training course.
