Motorcycle sales may be down but keen bikers were not in short supply at a recent auction in Peterborough where record-breaking turnover was achieved.
BCA Peterborough held a sale on February 26th in which 250 motorcycle fans turned up to bid for their favourite models.
Bike insurance policyholders may also have been among the 142 bidders who joined in online.
Of the 180 bikes offered on the day, 173 were sold, generating more than half a million pounds.
The result came despite sales of new motorcycles being down by 42 per cent in January compared with last year's figure.
BCA's Tim Naylor said the auction was a good sign of how future events could pan out.
"We are committed to establishing this monthly event as the premier motorcycle auction for buyers and sellers alike, both in the UK and Europe and results like this show we have got the concept right," he added.
Among the models sold was 2007 Harley-Davidson Screaming Eagle Electra Glide, which went for £14,100, a 2009 Piaggio Ape Callessino, which sold for £5,100, and a 2007 Honda Goldwing Deluxe that sold for £13,650.
