Tyre maker Dunlop has revealed it has created a tyre that can combine excellent grip in dry conditions with complete confidence when the weather is wetter to allow for sporting satisfaction.
Bike insurance policyholders could find they want to invest in the firm's SportSmart product, which is dubbed as offering the best performance yet also running over longer mileages.
According to Dunlop, SportSmart creates a "new benchmark of handling and confidence, irrespective of road conditions - dry racetrack or wet country lane".
Key features of the new tyre include a multithread layout based on the D211 GP race tyre, crossover performance that adapts to both wet and dry conditions and NTEC construction, which acts as a mechanical grip booster when inflation pressure is low on track days or standard for road use.
The tyre has also been made with Dunlop's JointLess Belt construction system, which utilises cord density engineering to provide more linear steering, better feedback and stability, even at high speeds.
Sharon Antonaros, Dunlop Europe's marketing director, told Tyrepress.com that the manufacturer believes that "if riders had the technology, experience and resources to design and build their own ideal sports tyre, the SportSmart is the tyre they would end up creating".
