Thousands of bikers got together for an Easter egg run in Shropshire over the weekend.

More than 3,000 riders took part in the event, which is the RAF Association's annual run to raise money for its Wings Appeal, the Times reports.

Bike insurance policyholders who took part will have ridden 25 miles for the charity, delivering Easter eggs and cuddly toys to the families of RAF servicemen and women and injured personnel.

Some of the goods were also delivered to military hospitals and care homes.

The RAF Association's director of fundraising Rachel Huxford told the publication: "The people who serve in our Armed Forces really are heroes and it is for them that we do this every year."

She went on to say that the families of servicemen and women are also heroes because of the sacrifices they have to make for those who enlist.

Local motorcyclist Raymond Hemming took part in the event dressed as a cockerel. He said that riders like to support the troops through the runs.

"They do a grand job and I think they are the best in the world," he added.

The number of riders taking part this year surpassed 2009's figure of almost 3,000.
