Motorcyclists in East Cheshire could benefit from enhanced road safety in the area following a £106,000 cash injection from central government.
The money from the Department for Transport's Road Safety Partnerships Grant scheme is being used to provide additional funding for a motorcycle safety project to create a web-based tool for bikers to use.
Online maps are being created to highlight the UK's popular routes for riders and will allow bikers to share their favourite routes.
Announcing the cash boost, transport minister Paul Clark said the grant will help the region continue its innovative work towards reducing biker casualties, which in turn could help cut the number of bike insurance claims.
"The experience gained from this project will be shared among all local authorities and other agencies to help make our roads safer for everyone," he added.
Mr Clark said that road casualties and fatalities have reduced in number by 40 per cent since the 1990s, but added there is no room for complacency.
Figures have shown that motorcyclists account for just one per cent of total road traffic, but constitute 19 per cent of all road user deaths.
