Checks vital as bike season sets in

Motorcyclists preparing to head out on their machines for the first time since winter are being urged to give their models a thorough once-over before setting off.
The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) is calling on riders to ensure their safety is not at risk by taking their machines out after incurring winter damage.
Faults can occur as the vehicle is left in storage during the cold months, such as corrosion and damage to tyres.
The MCI suggests riders give their machine a good oiling, check their brake fluid levels and brake pads and remember that regular maintenance is essential - potentially helping keep bike insurance claims at bay.
Riders have also been advised to check their kit and ensure helmets are still up to scratch. If headgear is frayed or stretched and the visor is scratched, it is probably time to invest in a new one.
Plenty of events are now taking place that could provide the perfect opportunity to get the bike out, the MCI claims. Racing season has commenced with the World Superbike taking place in Portugal, the British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch and the MotoGP in Qatar.
Meanwhile, the BikeSafe Motorcycle Show will take place at Sheffield Arena in June.
Steve Kenward, chief executive officer of the MCI, said: "Getting on a bike as the warmer weather approaches brings many benefits to the individual and other road users.
"It is a fun leisure activity that brings together people from all walks of life as well as providing a cost-effective commuting alternative."
