Motorcycle manufacturer BMW has revealed impressive sales figures for the first quarter of 2010.
The firm has said the record-breaking figures highlight a 40 per cent increase in sales, despite the general market being down by 20 per cent.
Bike insurance policyholders upgrading to supersport vehicles may have been among those investing in a new model, with the firm's S 1000 RR accounting for more than 43 per cent of sales in the 1000cc supersports segment.
The model was launched for delivery in January at a price of £10,950.
Meanwhile, the new BMW R 1200 RT jumped straight to the top of the touring sector while the K 1300 GT was the second most popular in the segment.
Adrian Roderick, general manager of BMW Motorrad UK, said that March had been a record-breaking month for the firm.
"Not only have we sold more bikes than ever before but we also have a bike topping the supersports league table," he commented, adding: "We have the most dynamic and exciting range of motorcycles we've ever had and we're delighted that the buying public think so too."
