Motorpoint Yamaha rider Neil Hodgson has announced his retirement from competitive motorcycle racing.
Much to the potential dismay of bike insurance policyholders who support the team, the 36-year-old has confirmed he will no longer be racing following injuries sustained while training in the USA.
The rider was preparing to compete in the British Super Bike Championship until an examination with a shoulder specialist recently scuppered his plans when his injuries were found to be too damaging.
Hodgson was involved in a crash in which he fell from his bike and landed on his shoulder.
He commented that it will take him some time to come to terms with the shock of his career being over.
"My shoulder will get back to probably 90 per cent over the next couple of years so I will be able to have a normal life," the rider added, thanking his fans for their continued support.
The successful racer has a number of achievements behind him, including taking the title at both the 2000 British Super Bike Championship and the 2003 Super Bike World Championship.
