An electronics superstore is opening a number of branches across the country that will sell electric motorcycles, it has emerged.

Best Buy launched its first GreenTech area in its UK store in Essex at the weekend and is poised to open further outlets in Liverpool, the West Midlands and Southampton.

The eco-conscious areas will features motorcycles, scooters and cars that all run on electric power.

Bike insurance policyholders looking for a green model will find they can purchase the Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle at the stores, alongside electric scooters like the Xero Tech and the Urban Citi.

Paul Antoniadis, chief executive officer of Best Buy branded operations, commented: "Never before has a consumer electronics retailer in the UK had an entire area devoted to green technology nor had such a comprehensive choice of electric vehicles."

He added that visitors interested in purchasing one of the autos will be able to test ride or drive the vehicles before making a choice, with the models then recharged at the electric points in each of the firm's car parks.

According to the Independent, the firm is hoping to eventually open in excess of 150 stores in the UK.
