An incident in central London has highlighted how security devices can help motorcyclists avoid bike insurance claims for theft.
A ten-month-old Suzuki GSX-1000 K9 had been parked by owner Edgar Montez outside his workplace in the capital when the model was attacked by thieves, who loaded it into a van and drove off.
However, because the machine was fitted a security device from Tracker, the model's motion sensor was triggered and the firm was informed that the bike was on the move.
Tracker then got in touch with the 34-year-old owner from Clapham Common who was surprised by the incident.
"I had parked my bike in the bay outside work as I did every day, and the last thing I had expected was for it to have been stolen," said Mr Montez, adding that the model had cost in excess of £10,000.
Without the device, it is likely the rider would have had to make a bike insurance claim to cover the loss of the machine and a replacement.
"I strongly recommend anyone buying a bike or a car to invest in one, as going without is not worth the financial risk," he urged.
Earlier this year, a Tracker device helped South Yorkshire police locate four stolen vehicles and track down a criminal gang.
