Motorcyclists across Yorkshire are set to benefit from a campaign that is aiming to increase awareness of riders on two wheels.
A number of authorities have teamed up for the initiative, which will see riders bear tabards as they travel with phrases such as 'someone's son', 'someone's wife' and 'someone's brother' to personalise bikers to other road users.
Dave Glanville, West Yorkshire's motorcycle road safety officer, said the authorities hope the campaign will highlight that riders are "not just anonymous faceless riders on bikes, we're real people with family and friends and we all need to look out for each other on the roads".
The main goal of the road safety drive is to reduce casualties on the region's roads. Findings have shown that across the area, two-wheelers make up one per cent of traffic, but account for 21 per cent of casualties.
Ruth Gore, spokesperson for Safer Roads Humber, said that awareness needs to be raised among drivers to always check for motorcycles.
South Yorkshire Police will be hosting the National BikeSafe Motorcycle show on June 12th and 13th at Sheffield Arena, which could help raise awareness of biker safety issues.
